About the Artist

At work drawing "Leigh and Sara"

Julia Robinson specializes in portrait drawing and painting, working out of Providence, Rhode Island. Her work emphasizes realistic detail to capture personality and likeness, creating an image that embodies the subject as a whole.

Julia grew up in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and began her art training in 2005 with local artist and teacher, Colleen Lowe. With an interest in building a foundation of classical skills, Julia spent the summer of 2006 at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. There, she studied portrait drawing and painting in the classical techniques of the great masters.

In addition to the Florence Academy, Julia has also studied at the Grand Central Academy of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and Rhode Island School of Design.

Julia began commissioning portraits in 2007. She studied English at Brown University and in her spare time, she plays golf and reads a lot of e. e. cummings poetry.
